Reading Notes: Wonderland: Down the Rabitt Hole, Part A

Alice was getting tired of sitting by her sister on the bank. It was so boring doing nothing. She would sometimes peek into the book her sister was reading and see that it had no pictures or conversations.  She thought about how boring a book would be without pictures or conversations.

She tried entertaining herself and thinking of something to do to not be so bored. It was hard to think of anything because of how hot it was, it made her think slower and sleepy. She considered if the trouble of picking up daisies is worth making a daisy chain. while she was pondering this, a white rabbit appeared out of nowhere and ran close by her. He had white fluffy fur and had big bright pink eyes.

The Rabbit seemed in a rush and would say to itself " Oh dear! Oh, dear! I am running late! I need to hurry!"  He took out his pocket watched and his big pink eyes widened even more. Then he took off in a hurried manner.

Alice looked at the rabbit and thought
I've never seen a rabbit with a waistcoat pocket or a watch to take out of it.

Her curiosity increased by the second until she found herself chasing after him. She saw just in time the rabbit go down a large rabbit-hole under the hedge and without thinking Alice followed the rabbit. She didn't consider where she was going or how to get back.

As soon as she went down it was like falling down a deep well. She thought that either the well is very steep or maybe shes falling very slowly because she had enough time to ponder what will happen next. She tried to look down but it was too dark to see anything ahead. She looked to the sidewalls of the well and realized that they were filled with cupboards and bookshelves. She saw maps and pictures hung upon pegs. As she was passing down, she took a jar from a shelf, it was labeled ORANGE MARMALADE. She opened it and was greatly disappointed because it was empty.  She then did not know what to do with the empty jar. She was afraid if she dropped it would kill someone, she finally saw a cupboard she could put it on as she passed it on her way down.

She thought to her self after going through a fall like this, the stairs look like a child's playground. She thought about how everyone at home will think she's so brave after she tells them this! She wondered how far she's fallen and that surely she must reach close to the center of the earth. She talked out loud " How far is the center of the earth? about 4000 miles?" Alice said to herself practicing what she had learned in her studies even though there was no one else to listen to it.

She kept thinking " Maybe I will fall through the center and come out on the other side of the earth! How funny would that be! Come out where people walk with their heads downwards! I shall have to ask someone the name of their country!"

She thought about how that conversation would happen, " please Ma'am is this new Zealand or Australia?" she practiced asking while she curtseyed, although it was hard to do while falling.

" She will surely think of me as an ignorant girl! I shall not ask; maybe I shall see it written up somewhere."
